Connecting wires for a RJ45 network cable

Use the two following two ways to connect between different networking equipment.


8P8C plug, 8-position modular connectors, RJ45 network.

Straight-through cable

T568B->T568B termination, TIA/EIA-568-B

Used between PC and switch/hub/modem.

T568B (Brown,Brown/White,Green,Blue/White,Blue,Green/White,Orange,Orange/White)

T568B (Brown,Brown/White,Green,Blue/White,Blue,Green/White,Orange,Orange/White)

Crossover cable

T568A->T568B termination, TIA/EIA-568-B

Used between PC and PC/router/uplink-port.

T568A (Brown,Brown/White,Orange,Blue/White,Blue,Orange/White,Green,Green/White)

T568B (Brown,Brown/White,Green,Blue/White,Blue,Green/White,Orange,Orange/White)

Both wiring types are used for 10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s, and 1000 Mbit/s (1 Gbit/s) networks.
Normally the voltage of a network cable is up to 2.5 volt.

Cable types

FTP: Foiled twisted pair
STP: Shielded twisted pair
UTP: Unshielded twisted pair

Cat5: 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T
Cat6/higher: 1000BASE-T, 10GBASE-T
